Artuke La Condenada 2024

The quality hierarchy, also consistent with the prices of the wines, is pretty clear and defined and clearly followed in a year like 2024. The finest and most complete wine is without a doubt the 2024 La Condenada, a single-vineyard wine from a 0.75-hectare plot in the Paraje Camino del Ciego in the village of Baños de Ebro. It was planted with a field blend of approximately 80% Tempranillo and the remaining 20% a mixture of Graciano, Garnacha and white Palomino Fino. Like the other wines, it fermented with indigenous yeasts and uncrushed grapes and matured in used 600-liter foudres for one year. It's serious, elegant and nuanced, with some floral notes, hints of wild herbs and berries and a subtle spicy twist. It has a medium-bodied palate with great balance and freshness, very fine tannins and superb precision, cleanliness, focus and symmetry. Like in previous years, it should develop nicely in bottle, as it has the stuffing and balance between the components to do so. 1,700 bottles were filled in November 2024. Luis Gutiérrez
This is more floral with wild berries and violets. The palate is medium-bodied with freshness, as well as chalky discreet tannins and depth driven by acidity that concludes with a savory saline touch. This comes from a vineyard planted in 1920 with a blend of tempranillo with 15% graciano, 7% palomino and 3% garnacha. This is singular in the context of the single vineyards, more ethereal but with depth. Drink or hold.
From 0.8ha of old vines at 520m-630m on sandy soils in Baños de Ebro, Rioja Alavesa; 80% Tempranillo combined with co-planted Garnacha Tinta, Graciano and white Palomino Fino. The berries are selected individually and spontaneous fermentation and malolactic take place in 600L French oak casks, where the wine then ages for up to 16 months. While this is young, it displays balance and appealing layers of fruit that suggest exciting development to come. With talc, rose petal and red cherry aromas, the wine opens up to a poised palate with direct acidity, elegance and ripe tannins. It is quite subtle, restrained and fresh. Absolutely charming. Organic.

Gran vino.
